Bunnies

Two soft puffs on the meadow green,
Where daisies nod and clover leans,
A mother's watch, her kits between,
In all the hush of the morning scenes.

A twitch of nose, a flicker of ear,
They hop on tiptoe, then stop and stare,
And freeze like tufts in the morning air.

The sun climbs slow and the fields run long;
The little ones yawn in a warm, bright song.
Then ears laid back, and one last bound —
They curl up soft where the grass is found.

Small, sweet, and quick of foot, they say:
The bunny's gift is its quiet way.
